WASHINGTON — Richard Painter is a former Bush Administration Ethics Attorney and law professor who claims to be a conservative Republican in his frequent appearances on MSNBC and CNN. He heads up an organization called Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) that gained attention this year after launching a lawsuit against the White House that alleged that President Trump had violated the Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution which was thrown out by a judge in January.

Painter says that CREW is a non-partisan organization as he consistently hurls criticisms and insults towards President Trump on twitter.

Painter joined CREW in late 2016 when it was led by longtime Hillary Clinton operative David Brock, who also runs Soros-funded organization Media Matters. Brock left CREW in December 2016, as Donald Trump prepared to take over as President of the United States. Norman Eisen became the new Chairman or CREW following David Brock’s departure. Eisen previously served as an ethics czar for Barack Obama.

Painter’s CREW is approved by the Democracy Alliance, a far-left consortium of donors that include George Soros, Tom Steyer and Terry McAuliffe.
